Welcome to the 42nd Annual California Student Media Festival, the nation's oldest student media festival. The Festival celebrates projects and learning with video and multimedia projects by students. There are also awards for teachers. Over 6,000 students and hundreds of teachers took part in last year's Festival! The Festival is not just for the high-end, expert technology users. If your students (or you) are using videomaking or multimedia in your classroom, the Festival is here to honor your efforts.
Mission. The Festival strongly encourages project-based learning and meaningful student work in media and multimedia and exists to acknowledge and reward successful classroom work.
The Festival believes that...
students are capable of extremely high level work, beginning at very early grades
media and multimedia are excellent tools for students
video and multimedia should be integrated into the regular subject-area curriculum
rewarding exemplary work and good school programs encourages more of both.
All work of the festival is done by volunteers; there are no paid employees.
