The California Student Media Festival is coordinated through the efforts of a group of passionate volunteers. This body meets 8-10 times a year to direct festival activities. Members of this steering committee take on various positions of responsibility including Director, Associate Director, Festival Emcee, Plaque Coordinator, Chief Geek, Judging Coordinator and others as needed. Additionally, the festival depends on the volunteer judging site coordinators who gather interested educators to judge categories and select winners.
